What causes a Nintendo Switch Charging Port fault?
The main reason we see when Nintendo Switches with charging port failures come in are due to accidental damage. If the USB C cable isn’t inserted perfectly straight, it can damage the port. Also as these devices are handheld sometimes they can be dropped with the charging cable still attached which can damage the USB-C port
Sometimes it can damage the connector on the dock too.
How do we repair a Nintendo Switch Charging Port?
The first thing we do before any repair is physically inspect your Nintendo switch charging port to see any damage. If there is visible damage then we won’t even try testing the console further as turning it on or inserting the charging cable could cause further damage to the internals of your Nintendo Switch. We then proceed to opening your Nintendo Switch to gain access to the internals.
We inspect the internal parts to confirm the fault lies with the USB C charging port. The ports are soldered to the logic board of the Nintendo Switch so we will carefully de-solder the old port, and replace it with a new one.
Once a new port is in place on your Nintendo Switch we will test that it charges correctly both ways, turns on and also docks correctly to a TV.
